I wish they were twins

I know most people will think I am crazy to say I wish my kids were twins but I do.  You see, I am a twin and so is my husband.   My kids are 2 years apart and they get along very well but I feel like something is missing.

I want them to be best friends the way I am with my twin and my husband is with his.  I want them to be able to go to each other to confide in and I want them to protect each other from this big big world.

I want them to know each others thoughts, to want to hang out with each other when they are older and talk to each other daily.  I want them to have that special twin bond.

I always had a built in best friend.  I always had someone to sit next to on the bus and someone to eat my lunch with at school.  Throughout high school we were even in most of the same classes together.  I always had someone just there for me no matter what.  We often got asked the same question throughout our life... "What is it like being a twin?"  I don't know what it's like to NOT have a twin so I can't answer that.  We also dealt with some more frustrating questions like, does your sister feel this when I pinch you?  Ow, and no.  Why are your arms hairy and hers aren't?  How come you have braces and she doesn't?  Seriously!
We were so close that we new what was always going on with the other one.
My sister and I are fraternal twins and Anthony and his twin are identical... obviously:

My beautiful sister-in-law and Anthony's twin with us at a wedding a few years ago {we are the couple on the right}
Anthony gets it when my sister and I do "twin" things.  Like showing up to every event in the same outfit, unplanned.  Or needing to talk to each other daily, well, several times a day.  And I get it when we go places and people confuse him for his brother.  I love that this is something we share.

I am secretly wishing for my daughter to have twins ;)  How great that would be!

  1. That's so cool. I always wanted to be a twin. And then I wanted to have twins. One of my husband's uncles had 3 sets of twins (and three singles)! But shoot - no twins for us. Brothers and sisters can still be close even if they aren't twins. My older brother and I were close (after the growing up years) and my husband and his older sister are close.

  3. That's so COOL! I had no idea!
    I agree with Charlotte non-twin siblings can be very close. My sister & I were close. Plus we looked so much alike even though she was 4 inches shorter than I people often mistook us for twins, which was FUN! Sometimes we'd even dress alike just to amp it up! :)

    ps ~ how did your sis NOT marry your husbands brother??? or does your taste in guys differ? :)

  5. I had no idea you were both twins. That's awesome!! But just to give you a little hope, I don't know what it feels like to be a twin, but my sisters are my best friends. The sister that is only 14 months younger than me was mistaken as my twin growing up. We did everything together and still do. Now we are both married and even bought a house in the same community! The bond is crazy. I pray that my kids have the same bond as I do with my siblings too.

  7. Well, she probably had a pretty good shot at it since both of you carry the twin gene! :o) And I bet even though they aren't just minutes apart in age, they'll still have a special bond.

    I always wanted to BE a twin, but not necessarily HAVE them. :o) I'm sure a mother of a set of twins would disagree with me, but I'm not sure I could handle two newborns at the same time! :o)

  13. How fun is that? I have two {my youngest girl and oldest boy} that people ask all the time if they're twins. But out of 6 I don't have any sets. What a strange thing to long for, but after reading it I totally understand. Still though, they probably will have that closeness. I bet you'll be amazed in the end. {Hopefully they won't show up in the same outfit though! Haha!}

  17. That is so cool that you are both twins. My kids are 16 months apart and look alot alike. I think when they get a bit bigger people will be asking if they are twins. I kinda wish they were. :)

  19. I love your twin blog. I can relate because I am a twin too. My sister and I are fraternal and even though we are so different from each other we share a lot of the twin bonds you and your sister share.

  20. I love this post! It makes me so excited for our girls. I am a bit jealous of the bond and wish I had a twin of my own. Your kids look so close and look as though they have so much fun together. :)
